Shri Jugrajji Mehta Literary Competition 2016

BATTLE OF WORDS AT SHISHUKUNJ

It was literally a battle of words at The Shishukunj International School as the 5 th Shri Jugrajji Mehta English Literary Competition – Word Power got underway.

In an effort to empower students with a good language and vocabulary, this one of its kind competition was started in the year 2012 . In its 5 th edition, it saw a record participation of over 80 students of Classes VII and VIII from 40 schools of the city. The purpose of the competition was not only to check if the participants were familiar with the words, but also to check if they knew the correct usage, synonyms, antonyms of the words as well. To add that extra zing to the event, idioms, with interesting visuals and also a Spellathon were woven into the competition . What made this competition unique was that it was based on the glossary of 500 words sent to the schools about 10 days in advance.

All participants first went through a Preliminary Round , and on the basis of the scores achieved, the 06 top teams were selected for the final competition on stage.

The six teams selected for the final rounds were:
1. D.P.S
2.SICA school No.3 Nipania
3.Indus World School Eastern Campus
4.The Emerald Heights International school
5. Sanmati Higher Secondary School
6. Choithram School Manekbagh

The team from The Shishukunj International School qualified for the final round, but being the host school, they did not participate in the Final Quiz.

The questions were tough and tricky, but no match for the participants who were extremely well prepared and confident. At several times during the competition, the answers were given even before the Quiz master completed the question. What tilted the scores in the end was the Rapid Fire Round in which the teams had to answer a set of 10 questions based on general English in 100 seconds.

The students from Delhi Public School , Mst. K. Gautham and Ms. Eeshta Saxena were par excellence and made it very clear that no question was tough for them. They were the first team ever TO ANSWER EACH AND EVERY QUESTION OF THE QUIZ CORRECTLY, thereby scoring 100 % marks in the Quiz and emerging the winners of the coveted 5 th Shri Jugrajji Mehta Trophy for Excellent Word Power 2016. They were awarded the trophy by Mrs. Mehta.

At the second position stood Indus World School Eastern Campus who were awarded the 5 th Shri Jugrajji Mehta Trophy for Commendable Word Power 2016 by the school Director Mr. Mahendra Sethia.

At the third position stood Sanmati Higher Secondary School who were awarded the 5 th Shri Jugrajji Mehta Trophy for Praiseworthy Word Power 2016 by the school Principal Mrs. Lalita Singh.

The event was anchored with great confidence and poise by the students of Class XI . Donning the garb of Quiz Masters, they won the appreciation and applause of all the participants and educators.

The event concluded with the vote of Thanks and the National Anthem.
