Interesting Mars, or is it….?

Rusham Singh Bais, Class X A

John rushed into the room announcing, “I am going to mars!” breaking the eerie silence that had prevailed in the room. His parents and elder brother were having an important discussion and had abruptly stopped when John had impertinently interrupted their conversation.
His brother sniggered at him asking, “And how exactly are you going there, by train?” John scowled at him, he always made fun of his dreams and thoughts. John said with a ring of hostility in his voice that Ganesha was going to take him.
“Baby, are you feeling sick? Do you have fever?” his mother asked, her voice filled with trepidation and concern. John snapped ‘No’ at his mother and exited the room as quickly as he had entered.
I was waiting for him there with tranquility. Oh! I apologize, I forgot to introduce myself. I am Ganesha, a very good friend of John. John and I had met at Ganesh Chaturthi, he had looked forlorn then. I could not bear the sad look that he bore in his eyes and thus became his companion. We’ve been together since then.
As soon as John entered the room, he hurled himself at me saying that he hated his family. I disapproved his saying such things about his family but decided to keep my mouth shut. After he had drained himself of all his bitter thoughts, I asked him cautiously if he still wanted to go to Mars, and he eagerly said ‘Yes!’
With the magical powers vested in me, John and I reached Mars in a nanosecond. With dust all around, Mars was nothing but a small hot planet with no water. However, John loved the rocks present there, admiring the beautiful texture, the red merging with the sapphire created ravishing shades.
Mustering courage to walk on such a hot planet, we walked around and talked. We could have done that in the garden on earth, but it is so much cooler to talk on Mars! Thankfully, John had packed some sandwiches, and with our mouths full of the yummy bites, we returned to beloved Earth.
We plan to go to Jupiter next. With our fingers crossed, we hope that it will be more interesting than Mars.
