Important concepts of diversity, inclusion and discrimination were taken up in Quality Circle Time, which was centered around the story ‘The Garden Where Flowers Wouldn’t Play Together’ exploring why the flowers initially refused to play with each other. Students discussed and reflected on the negative impacts of discrimination. The children learned that being directly or indirectly connected with each other makes everyone a part of one supportive family. Moving beyond superficial traits, the children understood how everyone possesses unique faces, colours and talents; realizing that these differences make our community worthy and relevant rather than creating barriers between one another. Shishyans were also engaged in open conversations to share personal feelings and experiences regarding inclusion and exclusion. Through these reflections, the group contrasted the limits of exclusion with the beauty of working as one. The session concluded with a meaningful reminder that our unique differences exist to make the garden beautiful, not to keep us separated.
