When I die,
invite strangers to my funeral
no, not a single person I knew.
Not a single known soul.
For strangers hold more empathy,
more passion,
than anyone else.
When I die,
invite poets to my funeral
not any other soul.
For poets carry compassion
like a candle in a storm.
But when I die,
invite my loved ones instead.
For the poets,
and the strangers,
already live in them
and no one else.
