“I never imagined that a ball of yarn could make my summer so special.”
I started my vacation by crocheting just for fun. Every day, I tried making something new: a bunny, a frog, a keychain, or a small accessory simply because I loved creating things with my hands.
Learning crochet was not easy. I remember practising for hours and even giving up for a whole week because I just couldn’t make a perfect circle. But I decided to try again. That experience taught me to be patient and never give up because we never know what wonderful things are waiting for us if we keep trying. Today, I can crochet almost anything from bags and keychains to cute animals.
One day, my mother showed my crochet creations to a few people. Soon, someone asked, “Can Lahak make one for me?” Then another person asked, and before I knew it, I had my very first order.
One order slowly became many. By the end of my summer vacation, I had completed 22 small and big orders. Along the way, I learned how to manage my time, stay patient, and finish every piece with care.
Many people even asked if I had an Instagram account so they could see more of my work. I felt really happy to hear that, but my mother believes I am still too young to have an Instagram page, so for now, my crochet journey is growing offline.
But earning money was not the most special part of my summer. In our colony, many children of construction workers have very few toys to play with. I decided that a part of what I earned should be used to bring smiles to those children. It made me realize that even a small effort can make someone feel loved and special.
Sometimes a bunny took much longer to make than I expected. I had to undo my stitches and start all over again. At first, it felt frustrating, but every mistake taught me something new. I learned that good things take time and that mistakes help us become better.
This summer, crochet taught me much more than just making toys. It taught me responsibility, creativity, kindness, patience, and the joy of sharing. It helped me grow as a person.
Sometimes, the best summer vacations are not the ones where we travel to new places, but the ones that help us discover the best version of ourselves.
