I draw too many flowers. It’s something I’ve picked up from a quote by Frida Kahlo,
“I paint flowers so they will not die.”
But I saw this video a few months back that plays like a little loop each time my pencil, pastel, pen or brush hit the canvas, sketchpaper or notebook…
Someone asks “How do I preserve my flowers for a longer period like you do—?”
The woman interrupts with a “You don’t.”
Then there is silence,
It’s the very silence which I pause before I create. Create anything at all.
What is creation anyway?
It is but an attempt for survival of something that must leave. Something you cannot hold on forever…
Because forever is nothing but a longer period of time in our own mortal scales.
Let time wither, curl up and dry into the sands of the unprobably eternal earth.
And now, my hands tire from the lilies, roses, lotuses, and daffodils. A million wishes for more time and yet, I know now my dear Frida, we cannot preserve our flowers because—
That’s not what flowers are for,
And now I know to stop chasing eternity for something meant for a temporary loving.
