The 4 A.M. Thoughts

I am someone who sleeps at 11 and wakes up at 6 (lucky days when I wake up at 4) rather than a reverse sleep schedule. Even though I tried that in the summer vacation and it was fun, it gave me dark circles big enough for people to think I am living in the blue and all I do is cry. So I switched back to my schedule and normal I was. The point of this write up is not to tell you my sleep schedule but the 4 a.m. thoughts I get when I wake up, contradictory to the 2 a.m. thoughts when I am not yet asleep. Everybody knows what 2 a.m. thoughts are like so I’ll simply skip to the 4 a.m. ones.

Of course the first thought when I wake up is to go back to bed and sleep in the cozy warmer because it feels so overwhelmingly happy to just hold on to your warmer and never let it go again. But that’s not how life works so your inner self calls on to you and tells you what matters more than that warmer which has only become something like a drug by this dawn of the morning. And then the series of thoughts start which has no ‘what ifs’, no ‘I wish’, no ‘one day’, no ‘I was left on seen’ and definitely no ‘why did they not involve me’. Yeah, though sometimes it is, ‘Oh no! I’ve got to finish this before reaching school.’ But on regular, slow paced days it starts with, ‘wow, the breeze feels so homely when it gently touches my face and genuinely poetic when it sways my hair’. After this the horses race in the brain to plan what has to be done first.

Within minutes, the next thing racing are the legs to finish the target of setting a new time limit to finish that kilometer run. And oh how can I forget the cold water bath which makes me so content that the rest of the day is already guaranteed to be the best. Finally the sun shows up to bring up my brightest smile which is genuine unlike the one I show when it’s time for a photo.

The slightly warm light caresses my face and it feels so grateful to be able to experience that. I feel so moved and motivated by the day and a spring of energy erupts in me while being in that little sun’s comfort zone. All the great thoughts already start accumulating and next is my mind planning a new poem on the same theme because my love for a morning like this comes from every small thing and it’s unbeatable. So overall, when I have to answer what 4 a.m. thoughts are like, they are the most delightful and motivating thoughts filled with bags of gratitude for every single thing around you, even for that little bird that makes the sweetest chirp and looks so cute.

And this, my friends, is one of those 4 a.m. thoughts.
