The Lizard and the Bird

Shruti Laddha, Class VI D

Once upon a time, there lived a charming king named Alex and his beautiful queen, Anna. One day, they were in the palace garden enjoying the sight of the lovely flowers when suddenly, a big black cloud appeared in the sky.
It was the wicked witch on her flying broom! Last year the witch had tried to kill Queen Anna but the king had bravely fought her and broken her wand. The witch spoke to the couple in a thundering voice, “Anna, last time you were saved, but this time, I will have my revenge on both of you.” She chanted some magic spell and turned Alex into a lizard and Anna into a bird. The witch then entered the palace with a wicked laugh and ordered the soldiers to hunt the lizard and the bird.
King Alex and Queen Anna sneaked into the palace and went to their magic room. They were very sad. After all, who’d want to be a lizard or a bird? Suddenly, a voice came from the mirror, “Go to the dark caves and pick the sword inside. It will remove the witch’s spell and then you can kill her with it. But do it before midnight or else, everything will be lost!”
King Alex sat on Queen Anna’s back and she flew them to the dark caves. They found the sword. As soon as they touched it, they returned to their original forms. They were happy.
King Alex picked the sword and ran towards their kingdom. He bravely entered the palace and challenged the witch. The witch was scared, she tried to escape but Queen Anna had locked all the doors.
King Alex fought the witch and slayed her with his sword and the whole kingdom was happy again. The flowers were blooming, the birds were chirping and the people rejoicing. They all lived happily ever after.
