He For She

Anushka Mimani, Class X B

People say it’s a dark, dark world,
People say, don’t leave the girl,
Alone at night.
But boys… they’re alright.
People say, “Girls, it’s not safe.”
“Get home before it’s too late.”
“But boys, you’re okay,
You can stay up late today.”
But why can’t a girl stay out to party?
Why can’t she walk alone in an alley?
Why’s this place not safe for girls anymore?
Why is there so much discrimination?
Why for a girl no job no education?
Is this your definition,
Of a girl in a democratic nation?
This problem won’t just fly away,
It’s imperative to find a way,
We’ll have to do so much more,
To wipe this evil from its core.
A girl is also a human being,
So stop just sitting and seeing.
Teach the man not to neglect a girl.
Give her love, give her respect,

Let her be heard.

One Day

Twisha Patel, Class IX F

Neither father, nor mother was there to console us. I was worried and a number of thoughts and questions were piling up into a huge heap in my mind. The past was like a scorching beam searing me.
I remember the date well. It was March 29, 2012. It was late in the evening. I had called my friend Eureka several times on her phone to wish her on her birthday. When I failed to get any response from her, I sent her a text message hoping she’d reply. But she didn’t. I went to sleep thinking that she might be with her family members.
A nagging thought didn’t let me sleep. Eureka never acted like this. She should have seen my message by now. She could at least have sent a reply to me. I finally decided to go to her apartment. When I reached there, I went upstairs and rang the bell.
When even after a while there was no response, I concluded that she wasn’t at home. I left feeling dejected.
As I was walking back home, I saw Eureka outside a hospital. I rushed to her. When she saw me, she burst into tears. I consoled her and asked her what she was doing at the hospital. She spoke with difficulty. I stood there transfixed as if the world around me had come crashing down.
Our brothers had been on their way to plan a small get-together for Eureka and they had met with an accident. Our parents were in the ICU. We, being too young, were not allowed inside. I prayed to god that may all this be just a dream and that I may wake up to realize that none of this had actually happened.

Well, that’s exactly what happened. My phone buzzed and I woke up with a start. I was dreaming! It was Eureka’s call.

Our Earth

Asmi Manudhane, Class VII F

Our Earth is in the system solar,
Yet it is quite cold in regions polar!
Equator is at degree zero,
But then too, for me, our earth is a hero!
Earth is known as the continent Blue;
Water makes this saying true!
Earth has continents seven;
All creatures making an impression.
It also has oceans seven;
We feel like being on seventh heaven!
As deep as our thoughts;
Beautiful corals it has got!
Earth is known for its wonderful nature;
And has pieces of Heaven Miniature!
Flowers pretty lie here;

For all these reasons for me it’s dear!

A Slum-Dog Is Definitely Not a Millionaire

Anushka Mimani, Class X B

Whether its the innocent puppy hiding behind the bushes, or the strong and ferocious looking dog barking at every person he sees, they are a creation of god and have as much right to live as any other creature on this planet. They have done nothing to be treated ruthlessly and crushed under vehicles every now and then. Sadly, that is exactly what is happening in Indore today.
Street dogs are being beaten to death by their own so called “best friends”. They are being harassed and are frowned upon by most in the society. Children enjoy throwing stones at them and scaring them away with a stick. This makes the dogs angry and they attack the children.

The Municipal Corporation is trying to curb the ever-growing population of street dogs in Indore. They are sterilizing and vaccinating the dogs against various diseases. This makes the dogs infertile and stops them from reproducing. This process is expensive and almost Rs. 900 is spent per dog which includes vaccination, sterilization and caring for the dogs after the process for a day or two. Then the dogs are sent back to wherever they had come from.

Several NGO’s like ‘Aware’ are also spreading awareness about this issue among the masses. Donations are being given. But it is still not enough. With such a large number, the impact of this operation is minimal. But if this continues, slowly but surely, the number of stray dogs would reduce and these dogs would finally have a real home with people to take care of them.

My Dear Friend

Sanskruti Mittal, Class X D

The days have gone,
The time has passed,
I’ve lost my self,
Without you.
I’ve forgotten to enjoy,
Enjoy my life, without you.
I’ve enjoyed my childhood with you,
But what about when I grow?
Our ripples are nowhere to be seen,
I’ve been searching us in them.
The promises we made of togetherness,
Are all broken.
Our laughter is nowhere to be seen,
I’ve lost the jolly time,
Spent with you.
Have you forgotten me?
I’ve lost you my dear friend,

I’ve lost you!

Again and Again and Again….how many times?

Pratiksha Jana, Class X D

Because they speak of hope
And it’s so naïve,
They still believe in the shore
Waiting for it after their dive.
Hope is indomitable, but when it’s crushed,
Everything we lived for, turns to dust.
It’s a stupefying thing, belief.
For when it’s ripped apart,
You’re still in so deep.
You still hope for another start.
They say, hope makes the world go around,
But what if it’s destroyed?
Would I still remain safe and sound,

And I’d be dead, but alive?

Week of Life

Poems by Tanisha Shah, Class VIII B

Week of Life

On Monday I was born,
Tuesday was the day I walked on,
Wednesday my childhood day
Thursday was the time,
When I learnt to express my thoughts in a different way,
Friday was the day of my wedding
Saturday I devoted to parenting
And then came Sunday…
By noon I was a grandparent
And after that I was carried on the shoulders
Of various people who were on the way to bury me
And then I was back for another week of life.

The Beauty of My Window

That red flower at my window
It is blood red in colour.
It brings peace to my mind
Its beauty is like a mystery to find
It is a home for creatures
Their food with features
Looking so glad
Joyful and colourful memories I’ve had
So many colours and varieties we meet
Every time they happily greet
Without any greed
So lovely
So charming
Dancing in air
Like a gift of god
Below the Lord.
