Something Weird in Space

I saw something weird in the night sky
The news said it was a sky maze.

There’s something new in space.
It could be a planet, a black hole, or a shooting star.

Then again, the news said
The astronauts in space
spotted something new and were amazed

It’s as weird as anything can be.
After months of searching and still in vain.
The scientists could not identify it and felt their knowledge was simply plain

Every day in the night sky I can see it shining bright and beautiful,
Still smiling at me, still surviving and thriving.

Landing on Mars

Era was a curious child, interested in Science. She would always be learning and finding new facts on the universe. Her dream job was to be an astronomer. Once, while she was learning about comets online, she came across a competition related to Astronomy. She had to do research on Mars. The judges would select the 5 most intriguing and engrossing research papers. The ones who were selected would be given a chance to explore Mars and collect samples.

Era was thrilled and started her research. She worked day and night to get selected. After all, this had been her dream ever since she was 4. She put in all her effort but made a slight mistake. Turns out, there was an age limit. Era was only 14 while she had to be at least 16 to explore Mars. She found this out only 2 days before the submission deadline.

She froze at the very thought of not making it through. It had been not just her dream but a passion for which she worked for months to make the most valuable research papers. She was determined and didn’t want to lose an opportunity like this. With all her conviction and honesty she decided to submit the research paper anyway. She was called to appear for a medical examination as a part of the selection process.

A fortnight later, the date for results arrived. Luckily and surprisingly, Era got selected! Her determination, interest and hard work in the field of worked in her favour. Because of her athletic build, she made it through the medical exam too. After all the required training, it was time to fly to Mars.

Next, they went under a strict diet and heavy training for a span of 30 long days without a single break as this opportunity only comes once in years when Mars comes close to the Earth. The time was short. Getting up at 4 and doing the physical training on the ground to taking lessons on Mars was a gruelling process but she did it all with great fervour and resilience. Soon, the day arrived when they had to finally board the spaceship to Mars. Soon, she was in a spaceship, flying to Mars. Along with the excitement, there was also an uncanny fear and chilling nervousness to adjust to the new climate and about the possibilities of landing safely on Mars. But the uninterrupted passion to land on Mars and explore the unexplored was her biggest winner to overcome all challenges that came on the way.

Finally they landed. This was by far the fastest landing ever, thanks to the extremely talented scientists of ISRO. They had made an unbelievably strong and technologically sound spaceship. When Era and her team reached Mars, they experienced a difficult climate. It was all dry and cold. Era, along with 4 other people, started collecting samples. They worked hard for a long time. That’s when they saw a mysterious, red button fixed to the ground. Era and the other four explorers were curious. After some deliberation, they decided to push it. Era went forward and as soon as she pressed it, CLANG! They all fell into the inner part of MARS! They all were terrified, shocked and confused. Unlike the outermost layer, the inner part of Mars was brighter, warmer and had some seed-like structures under the hard crust.

Bingo! They thought to themselves, if this is going to be the biggest exploration done till date. After all, this would mean there’s life on another planet. They took pictures of the place along with a barrage of samples. Halfway through the process, Era realised something was left and it also shook others when she shared her fear. She realised that they had come to the bottom-most core by pressing the red button, but there was no visible button to go back. They were stuck!

They all started panicking and searching for a way to go back. After many hours of effort in searching for the way to return to where they had landed, they all started getting exhausted and decided to sit beside a rock, saddened and breathless. That was when one of them stomped their feet in frustration on a hard rock. And bang! They all were surprisingly transferred back to the surface of Mars in a flash.

Era and her teammates were on cloud nine to be back in their spaceship. They realised they were safe now. Their journey back to Earth wasn’t as exhaustive as they were all busy sharing their research and also managed to doze off turn by turn. Era felt proud, but this didn’t last long. She couldn’t stop wondering, how she was allowed to travel to Mars because after all, she didn’t meet the criterion of eligibility because of her age.

After reaching back on Earth, they handed over the samples for testing, along with every minute detail of the occurrences that had happened on the planet. Era was sent back home to relax. So were the other teammates after the long tiresome yet a very successful expedition to Mars.

After about a week, Era’s phone rang. It was a call from the research department. They told her that her selection had been an exception. It had taken them multiple rounds of discussion to agree to select her for this challenging expedition to Mars. She was underage but her research was so impressive that they decided to consider this as a one-in-a-million case. Era silently choked with tears of joy. She realised her passion and knowledge finally paid off.

That’s when her doorbell rang. A package had arrived for her. The package held a cheque and a certificate of excellence. She was informed that the samples she collected on Mars were exemplary and very resourceful to ISRO. They said though the findings are still under the scan, but the youths have definitely opened up the new and very exciting possibility of finding life on a planet other than Earth.

There was also an invitation to all the fellow members from none other than the President, Droupadi Murmu to join for dinner.

Era gasped for joy, “Where there is a will, there is a way! Winners are ordinary people with some extraordinary determination!”

Nature

Nature

Everything around us is nature,
God has given us this feature.

Birds fly high up in the sky,
And mountains are too high.

The trees are green,
The environment is serene.

We are being malicious to it,
But it never does us wrong.

I request you to leave it as it is,
And not play with it!!

My Glorious Childhood

My mother tells me about it,
And I still remember it a bit.
The time when I was too innocent,
And yet magnificent.
I used to have tons of toys.
That time was filled with happiness and joy.
Then the life was alluring;
But now it is becoming boring.
If God would ever ask me for my wish of any times,
I would wish to become smart and good,
But my first preference will be my childhood!!

1857

In 1857, a spark did ignite
A flame of hope, in the darkest night
The people rose, with one voice, one goal
To break the chains, and reclaim their soul.

The sepoys, they led the charge ahead
With courage, that inspired the dead
They fought for freedom, they fought for rights
For a nation, that was denied its lights.

But the British, they had the strength and might
And the rebellion was put to fight
The sepoys, they were captured and killed
But their spirit, forever thrilled.

For their sacrifices, will never be in vain
Their legacy, forever to remain
For they fought for a cause, that was just and true
And their bravery will forever shine through

The 1857 rebellion, a tale of hope
For a nation, that learned to cope
For it showed that even in the darkest hour
We can rise and reclaim our power.

My Country Offers A Lot

Driving, walking or flying to the destination,
Relaxing in the various landscapes
My country offers a lot,
Beaches, mountains, deserts, valleys are beyond imagination.

A Rajasthani travels to the east,
Living the tribal cultures and traditions when,
Various tribes familiarize you with their rich arts.
You devour the Kangshoi, Ngamtok and fish curry feast.

A Tamilan travels to the snow-capped mountains.
Might face problems with Pahari or Hindi but will be embraced with care.
Tibetan, Persian and Buddhist culture has its chunks here.
The place is filled with rich heritage and traditional fountains.

A Bengali travels to the land of sand,
Enjoying the camel hump – ride while sipping the jaljeera and enjoying dal-bati-churma.
The folk dance and music, and banis add to the flavours.
They celebrate tourism without fear or fervour.

A Kashmiri travels to god’s own land,
Back riding the elephants; reliving the Dravidian culture; tasting the Chemmeen and Njandu.
The Kathakali dancers and Kalaripayattu artists showcase their arts.
For cooking the delicacies you can always give a hand.

The garba mixes with Manipuri dance,
Idli- sambhar celebrates with dhoklas.
North-eastern phanek matches with Banarasi sarees.
Differences stand no chance.

This gives the lesson of unity in diversity,
Where people around the map explore and enjoy together.
Nurturing, caring and loving the country.
Protecting the heritage, enriching the biodiversity.

Piano

In the dark, dim room he sits
A Greek, with hair as black as night
His fingers dance across the keys
As he works to pass his test with ease

The piano is his only friend
In this world, that seems to never end
He plays with passion, and with grace
A symphony of happiness and of grace

He pours his heart, into each note
As he strives to stay afloat
He knows the music is his escape
From a world, that is full of hate

The test looms near, but he’s not scared
For the piano is his solace, his bared
Heart and soul, poured into each chord
As he plays, his confidence is restored

The notes fade, and the test is fine
He stands up tall, his head held high
With strength he never knew he had
Thanks to the piano, and the music he possessed.

The Perfect Girl

To the girl whose beauty is present in all seasons
I tell you why you are beautiful, here are the reasons:
Your beauty extends into the heavens,
it goes on forever and never lessens.
Even when the clouds heighten
you are here and the world brightens.
You are like a fruit that constantly ripens
your beauty continues to grow no matter what happens.
My fondness for you constantly deepens
because every time I see you my heart starts to weaken.
You make everything else appear hollow
wherever you are, loveliness is sure to follow.
You shine so bright you cast your own shadow
a beauty that others would love to borrow.
But try as they might your beauty they will never catch
because something like you they could never match.
Your beauty seems to increase with every breath
it tests the limits my imagination can stretch.
It makes me question if what I am seeing is real
I only know it is true by the way that I feel.
Your beauty is so vast it can’t be concealed
there is no hiding it your beauty is always revealed.
The power of your beauty is the world’s greatest gift
the heaviest boulder it could easily lift.
A girl this perfect I never knew
all that changed the moment I met you.
Heaven on Earth I was not aware
until I met a girl that was crafted with such care.
You would be the answer to a prayer
if someone asked for something rare with beauty to spare.
If I had a choice I would choose this girl over air
for air can’t compare to a girl not found elsewhere.

Invisible

I wish I could be invisible
So that I can be invincible

For you it can be useless
This is the power for which I will always say yes

I’ll do whatever I want to,
I’ll win each game of hide and seek
And I’ll make everything float in the air too

People will wonder where did I go?
Will they ever get to know?

The reason I am invisible
It’s because you chose to be miserable

I am here when you choose to listen
It makes me cry to see your face glisten

Oh yes!!
I am invisible
I am invincible

The Blue Umbrella

Once lived a girl innocent and kind,
With a heart made of gold and the most excellent mind.
Magnificent as she was, free like a butterfly,
Always working for the good, never priding up the high.

One fine day she came across a group,
Happy as could be, not one for a dupe,
A young woman was charmed by her pendant,
A leopard’s claw, one polished and resplendent.

The girl asked for her umbrella in return,
The woman agreeing half-heartedly, as if to spurn,
The girl was pleased, and walked away contentedly,
With the blue silk fluttering above her gracefully.

Everyone was dumbstruck, amazed by its grace,
Slightly envious as she walked with a cheerful face,
Each one secretly admired it from afar,
As it left a blazing fire in their hearts with a scar.

Ram Bharosa was one of the many,
The many who wanted its beauty to be theirs.
But he was one of those, those few uncanny;
Those resorting to wrong methods with a hazy stare.

He ordered the umbrella stolen,
But stopped dead in his tracks,
As his attempt went unsuccessful,
And was caught, giving him a rack.

Everybody knew better than to trust him further,
But the girl never forgot, walking past with a shudder.
The old man sat alone in his shop,
Pondering upon his fortunes, sometimes with a tiny sob.

As charitable as could be, the girl stepped in,
And left the umbrella with a secret little grin.
Upon being confronted said confidently,
“Materials never mattered more than emotions, and so should never be.”

The girl trudged away, with pleasure within,
And remembered her old days with the sky as her kin.
These were the days to relive those ones,
With only the sky as an accomplice with the sun.
