Experience of Arts Class

Chhaya Joshi, Alumnus (Class of 2014-15)

On the first day of the class I was enthusiastic and thrilled of course because I was passionate about arts and it was the first time I was venturing into it as a subject I would be examined on.
It was a phenomenal moment when I sat on the high stool and used the professional easel for the first time, sketched those beautiful yellow flowers in the bright sunlight near the basketball court sitting for hours on the green grass or sitting on stairs and sketching the palm leaves inside the school building.
There are people who can effortlessly sketch an object’s likeness, and people who struggle for hours just to get the angles and proportions right and  our teacher told that it just takes ‘a lot of practice’ and ‘the right perspective’. By the end of the first span I had learnt how to stir my imagination and enthusiasm, to take risks and do what I was most afraid of doing, to widen my horizons and that being an artist is a full time job that demands all one’s efforts and concentration and my teacher made that easy for me to do.
Our teacher used the word ‘beautiful’ rather freely and that built up my faith in myself to expose the mini miracles in my paintings. I learnt how to see things through an artist’s eye – differently, and to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inner significance. It was a startling one year long exploration.
At the threshold of the next session in my continual learning I’ve realized that Art is all about metaphor. Art enables me to find myself and lose myself at the same time. It is a self-discovery and that I reflect who I am in my artwork. It washes away the dust of daily life off my soul. I enjoyed the captivating struggle for perfection throughout.

USA – A Thrilling Experience

Hridhima Tyagi, Class VIII B

What a thrilling experience it was
To explore the earth.
To witness the wonders of human hands,
And festivals since birth.
Exploring is a medium
To gain knowledge and have fun.
We can experience different adventures,
Or simply bask in the sun.
It is better than learning from books,
Which blear your eyes,
We are deprived of awareness
And healthy exercise.
Just travel and explore the world
Be it night or day.
This is what I learnt,

From my trip to the USA!

Until

Prateeksha Jana, Class X D

The flower I adored, not the lily,
The one with the sweet, sweet smell
Like burnt sugar and texture
Like taffeta, a bud
Which could be beautiful
That flower rested in my garden
In that summer
Beauty of the light
Heat of the air
Until spring came around
With green grass
Fruits on trees
And the flowers I adored
Adored, till spring came around.
Until the flowers grew around me
The sweet scent turned cloying and deathly
Until they grew on me
And I couldn’t move
I couldn’t breathe.
Everywhere I looked, I saw it
I looked to the mirror
Hoping for sanity
But I saw it.
I tried to get it to unwind from my throat
A necklace of the flowers I adored
Now rotting

Until the spring where they suffocated me…

Reflection

Vibhooti Hasija, Class X D

Do we really know ourselves?
Or are we just strangers?
Strangers in our own bodies
Trying to compete in this rat-race
Never really succeeding.
Do we really know ourselves?
Do we know the person who looks
Back at us from the mirror?
Everyone’s a nameless face
They know what you did
But do they really know who you were?
Actions speak louder than words
Leave such an imprint on someone’s mind
That even if they want to forget you,
They won’t be able to.
Nobody really knows themselves
But if you want someone
To remember who you were,
Pretend that you do.
People dig that.

We’re nothing but strangers living a lie.

Sky

Aryaa Dubey, Class X D

The breeze of the night
The morning sunshine
The rays of thine, Oh beautiful sun
Caressing my face with thy shine
And then you turn.
Turn to undress the bright
And reveal the radiant night
Thou art so exquisite
Thy bosom holds the heart to me.
And when you bestow the drops on me
My heart becomes alive
Beauty is spread as far as you can see
That is what I call life
The stars are thy breath
The garish moon is thy heart
The sun, thy eye,

Bless me, as I part.

My Journey as a Tree

Pavitra Somaiya, Class X B
I was very small
Not very tall
When I was sown in the soil
Like a wrapped foil.
Then I grew taller
And converted myself into a bush
Irrigated with fine water
It was the root that I pushed.
Slowly I grew into a plant
With many beautiful flowers
The birds hop around me
Like the shining stars.
The people watched me growing
Into a huge tree
Suddenly, I started showing myself
As though I could fee.
I became attached to my surroundings
Like a human being
But then I realized
That it was my last scene.
I gave oxygen to earth
And treated this planet as a child.
All the love I gave
Was somewhere felt very mild.
Unfortunately, I had to go
Leaving all those lovely moments
‘coz life is like a cycle

Which never ends.
