Reverie

“I wonder when I will grow up and live my dream.
When no one is there to stop me and I have a high self-esteem.
When I can buy pretty clothes and dine in restaurants every day.”
Said I when I was five, while under the tree I lay.

Now that I am 15, I realise life is more than just about buying clothes
It is rather about building a respectable person and self oaths
It is about choosing the right people to surround you
And choosing the right careers to pursue.

Life is surely harder at fifteen than at five
But furthermore, you have to strive
Life is about not giving up
Even though it might be abrupt.

My Worst Bestie

Samantha was in second grade and she was my best friend,
I looked up to her to no end,
She was smarter, stronger and prettier than me,
All these qualities were all I could see.
Blinded by these goods, I didn’t notice the sly, cunning side to her,
And there wasn’t a worse moment for it to spur.
Around the end of second grade,
Just when I thought our friendship was made,
She started telling stuff to her other friend Abby,
Stuff like I overreacted, and being pretty was all I could see.
And in third grade, we both were in different sections,
And we had friends of different selections,
I made besties with a girl who came in my bus,
While Samantha started making a fuss,
She told everyone I overacted and showed off,
The last straw was when she told my new bestie, Soph,
Soph was in her section and they soon became friends,
And Soph looked up to Samantha to no ends,
Of course, Soph and I were still best friends forever,
She swore nothing would break us apart, ever.
Soon Samantha started telling Soph everything she told the others,
And soon Soph said she never bothers,
To be friends with a person like me,
And the only reason she was friends was because she felt pity.
I told the teachers about Samantha’s behaviour but they didn’t hear a word,
They thought the fact such a “smart, kind girl” could be mean was absurd,
Of course, my parents didn’t listen either as they thought I was jealous,
I’d told them Samantha was my bestie, just a year ago, the reason was obvious.
Soph became my bestie again in fourth grade,
And a condition was laid,
I told Samantha she could tell everyone my friends and I were baddies,
But she had to stop telling my buddies.
Samantha said she didn’t want to interfere with my life,
And she didn’t want to be the knife,
She said she didn’t want to be the reason for my despair,
And she told me she thought she was being unfair.
I just shrugged and left it alone,
And now, in grade six, that affair is long gone,
Samantha still doesn’t like me and thinks I’m bad,
But at least she isn’t interfering with the friends I have and had.

What is My Future?

What is my future?
My future has possibilities
My future will be bright
I wonder what I will be?

Will I be a pilot
To soar across the sky?
Will I be a doctor
To cure people I’ll try?

Will I become an actress
And dance across a stage?
Will I be an artist
And paint a masterpiece on every page?

Will I be a detective
To solve mystery murders?
Will I be a scientist
And mix up all the formulas?

What will my future be
Oh I’m so anxious to know
Everything sounds amazing
My dreams I will follow

What is a Dream?
A dream is not something
That you see in your sleep
It is a hint of passion
That goes way down and deep.

It is a star
That will give you the light
Follow it when you are stuck
In your darkest night.

A dream is a promise
That you make to yourself
So don’t let it go
Lying on some shelf.

Believe in your dreams
With all of your heart
Even if you fall
Don’t give up, make a new start.

A dream is a torch in a mist
To make you see things through
So believe and follow it
And it just may come true.

Fear
What is fear?
Why do we feel it?
Is it just a feeling?
Or is it something different?

Fear is something
That we all feel.
It is something
That may or may not heal.

Our greatest fears
Are worse than worst
Our smaller fears
Are something that feels like a curse.

What makes your blood run cold?
What makes your neck prickle?
It is the fear in your bones
That runs down in a trickle.

What is that thing
That is always so very near?
It is the evil and cruel
The despicable fear.

Magical Me
If I were a Unicorn
I’d gallop around and have my fun.
If I were a phoenix
I’d shine as bright as the sun.
If I were a pixie
I’d be up to mischief all day.
If I were a fairy
I’d sleep on a bed of hay.
If I were a mermaid
I’d dance across the seven seas.
If I were a dragon
I’d be a trusty steed.
If I were a griffin
I’d stand tall and proud.
If I were a gnome
I’d live under the ground.
If I were an angel
I would always speak the truth.
If I were a ghost
I’d sneak up and shout ‘BOO’!

What Makes Shishukunj Special

What makes Shishukunj Special?
What makes it special
Is the atmosphere and enthusiasm
The merry chirping of birds
And the red and brown leaves of autumn.

Our greeting makes it one of a kind
When everyone says “Namaste”
Every pupil becomes confident and bright
And we feel ready to face the day.

The teachers are respectful and kind
Each student is like a blooming flower
And the helpers teach us about hard work and honesty
We learn from them as the clock ticks hour by hour.

And these halls we walk
They’ve become our homes
Benches and classrooms
We can call our own.

Everything in this school makes me feel special
And that’s why Shishkunj is unique
And it is not only I
But we all feel that way as here we can all be free.

Friendship day
These will be just one of those good old days
When we remember all the friends that we have made
And the dos and don’ts we learnt along the way
And the gift of friendship that should never stray.

Those friends that we trust
Are so much like ourselves
We never realise it
Until they take us to other realms.

With them you can be
Who you wanna be
Your spirit soars
And you set it free.

These friends we’ve made
Are whom we trust
And may this bond
For forever never rust.

With them you don’t have to pretend
Just be yourself and you’ll be fine
Be true and loyal
Having a true friend is a feeling so divine.

The most beautiful thing on Earth
What is the prettiest thing on Earth?
I was asked by my friend
I got lost in the possibilities
I thought they could never end.

Is it the rainbow?
Is it the butterfly?
Is it the flower?
Is it the blue sky?

Is it the crystal?
Is it the diamond?
Is it the ruby?
Is it the emerald?

Is it the river?
Is it the sea?
Is it the ocean?
Is it the tree?

As I pondered on this
I sat with a frown
Then I discovered that thing
For me, it is the sight of my hometown.

She

Well, I can’t see anything but of course a beautiful lady,

And she laughs as if laughter is light and light is laughter and that is the secret of the universe!

Her fear always leads me into magic…

She is not ugly but her beauty has light in everyone’s heart!!

All moments with her have beauty, but not everyone can see it!!

She is not brave nor is she afraid!!

The Shore

The breeze, the shore,
The sand, the wind’s roar.
The waves come and go back,
Showing the world’s two sides- white and black.
The cool breeze fluttering my hair,
Wandering in the world without despair.
The boundless horizon, sparkling in the rays,
The unending world, it portrays.
The mighty palm trees dancing shamelessly,
Their fronds swaying with the wind, in full glee.
The rough sand particles holding together to make a child’s castle of dreams,
The whooshing of the wind- a loud silence it seems.
Dipping my feet in the water is like a mother’s embrace,
It feels different near the shore- a serene place.

The Yellow Envelope

There was something within
The yellow envelope, in
the dusty attic
of a house chaotic.

Mats were laid, the house was clean,
But under the mats, in a nook never seen,
A yellow envelope was there
With a few memories bare.

It shone peculiarly,
Getting my attention unknowingly.

Peculiar was the yellow envelope,
Peculiar was its writing,
Peculiar was its address,
Peculiar were its stories.

The envelope was big, with memories filled.
A long letter within,
With several stories in.

I read it whole,
My eyes glowed,
for
Beautiful stories were told.

The envelope, faded and old,
held for me
riches untold
riches not to be seen with eyes
but felt by the soul
as lives unfold.

Memories

The Memories
Gazing at the stars on a warm summer night
By the fire cozy and bright
And looking back at all that we’ve been through
This moment is a fairytale come true.

We aspired, decades ago to be there with each other
We were clueless of what future held for us
Now that it’s been 50 beautiful years,
We celebrate this togetherness with simple cheers.

More than love is what we have
Happiness, respect, trust and faith, but nothing to brag.
It’s been so long, but we still love each other and us
And have more years together on this life bus.

The Trick
The serenity of the wind
The absence of the mind
The scintillating sunset
And the reflection of it all in my eyes.

I feel numb yet warm inside
Seeing the sun reach out for the skies
The horizon looks like it’s chasing me
And the birds are singing just for me.

The long breath I take
The conscious mind I again awake
Nature played me well yet again by this tranquillity
When I should’ve known the world is still as restless as it ever was.

A Halloween Night

A Halloween night with creepy sound
Hush – vush silently aloud
Dark sky with lights off
Ghost, phantom, monster sort of.

Lying alone with no other
Clock tick – tick, bells ringing
Praying for a rightful brother
behind me, a sound singing
“I will take you, I will eat you
after dying, none will miss you”

I thought of running away
but the ghost is so cunning
he will block my way

he opened his mouth to gulp me away
I woke up, he faded away
started packing cake and cream
Then I realized ” it was a dream”.

Put down your phones and pick up the Planet

About 80% of the total population of the world is addicted to phones. We find almost every person watching or chatting on social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram for hours but, they should be spending more time with nature and hearing the brawling river, chirping of crickets and chattering of birds in nature.
Now a crucial question ensues that “How can we spend more time with nature”? According to me, the finest tip is to pot some plants in our houses to get more affectionate and spend more time with them. We all know that plants take in CO2 and release Oxygen in order to make their food so, if we pot more plants in our houses, we will get fresh air and highly nutritious fruits and vegetables.
Watching phones can give you a never-ending backache and can make you obese sitting at one place, whereas walking on the lush green grass and observing the nature as well as birds can improve your mental skills and enrich your knowledge towards them.
One example that I would like to share is that during the Covid pandemic everything was locked, we were lonely, secured in our homes and cooking fancy dishes. I remember that my mother and I used to go for a walk at night to sense nature and observe it. I would like to conclude with a quote
“Time in nature soothes my soul lovingly wild”.
