Thank You Dad…

Anvi Mittal, Class IX B

For all the droughty places in the world,
You taught me how to be the rain.
After all the humiliation by the world,
You taught me how to bear the pain.
After all the shoves from the world,
You taught me how to stand upright.
When I was overshadowed by the world,
You taught me how to chase the light.
After all the losses in my life,
You taught me how to play the game.
After each time my head bent towards the ground,
You taught me how to push back the shame.
For all the empty grounds in my life,
You taught me how to create my way.
After all those lazy times I spent,
You taught me how to work night and day.
After all the ways I wounded myself,
You taught me how to hide the tears.
After all those scary nights that passed,
You taught me how to fight my fears.
After all the insults I did to you,
You helped me in whatever possible way.
All your hardwork and sacrifices,
Have made me a better person today.

Mother’s Day

Vagmi Shah, Class X B

As important as any day could be
Is the Mother’s Day, you’ll see.
A day to cherish the one person who
Would go to any length to
Protect her child from danger.
A mother can’t be described in words
Nor in a sentence, nor in any essay.
These feelings are genuine, right from the start
And come straight from the heart.
Being a mother
Is just another
Part of a woman’s life
But it is truly the best part in her life.
            I think that the celebration
Of Mother’s Day should not be just a consideration.
But must be celebrated in way
            That she would remember it
            Till her last day.
Colourful balloons and beautifully
Wrapped gifts and sugary sweets
Are just some of the treats
That one offers to their mother.
            But on this special occasion
Do the best thing you could ever have done.
            And instead of these treats
            Give her your feelings instead.
Feelings and thoughts will be more
Easy to cherish and store.
She would always remember the day
The day in the month of May
When her children expressed themselves
In the best possible way.
Tell her, on this special day
How much you love her, everyday!

Forgiveness – the Best Quality

Vaidehi Partani, Class IX A

A human being is a great personality
And forgiveness his best quality.
Life is like a shining star,
It is like a speeding car.
Your hands should be open only for sharing,
Your time should be spent a little for caring.
Cats and dogs raining from the sky,
Your friend for you should be that high.
Love is not at all more than wealth,
Your first priority should be health.
Never be a person who is helpless
Ever be a person full of kindness.
Harsh words are like huge stones
They are like default cell phones.
The way injury takes time for healing,
Same way people take time for understanding.
A person feels safe at home,
Like a cushion filled with foam.
You feel comfort and are happy with support,
Like you are standing inside a strong fort.
You should be sweet like honey,
A cute toy like a bunny.
To err is human
To forgive is divine.
A human being is a great personality
And forgiveness is his best quality.

A Story of Twists

Hridhima Tyagi, Class VIII B

“It’s lunch time!” shouted Harry, “Sarah, show us your tricks.”
Sarah, a tall girl, was famous for her magic tricks. She stood in the center of the children. “Here are two of my pet bugs. Now I will remove the cloth and presto! The bugs are gone.” She pushed the cloth towards Harry. The bugs lay crawling there. As Harry bent for a closer look, the bugs suddenly jumped onto Harry’s nose. Harry fainted.
“Babloo fistzi non.”
“Huh?” Harry sat up confused, “What did you say?”
“Babloo fistzi non.”
“I am sorry but I don’t understand”, Harry said looking bewildered as he watched the alien speak. The latter looked like a man but was wearing a skirt.
“He is asking you to get up,” answered a tall thin girl dressed in a milky white shirt and black pants. Her shoes looked like they were made of polished chocolate.
“Here, have this,” she pushed forward a plate of crisps.
Harry jumped upon them but he soon realized that the crisps were made of steel. He threw them away. That is when he realized that all of them were robots.
“You are under our control now,” said the girl.
The robot pushed Harry into a small cell while he kept shouting, “Sarah, mother, father!”
“Can they hear you?” asked the girl.
Harry shook his head.
“So shut up.”
Suddenly, another girl appeared at the door. She opened it and motioned Harry to come fast.
“Shouldn’t I be the prince saving a princess!” he thought as he was rescued by the girl.
“It’s a world of twists! Let’s go through the water fall,” said the girl.
Harry looked in amazement as the water fall was ‘falling’ upwards.
Suddenly, a policeman came on a cycle and on the other side he saw a milkman in a police car.
“This world is really confusing,” he said to himself.
He was soon in the middle of the waterfall. But he was not quick enough and was flung up and up and up.
Harry woke and saw himself surrounded by Sarah and other children.
“Babloo fistzi non.”
Harry watched in amazement as his tongue spoke an alien language. The world of twists was really on his mind now. He tried the rest of the day to speak in his own language. It was really tiring.

This is what a magic bug can do to you. So stay away from them!

Surfboards, Shadows and Sheep

Ayush Baweja, Class VII D

Porter Pig was a very famous pig on farms all across the world. Not only could he lift a barn above his head, but he also had the best snout that anyone had ever seen. Porter Pig was the best at sniffing out trouble. He could smell trouble from fifty miles away. Whenever Porter Pig found trouble, he was always able to fix the problem and make everything okay. Farmers all over the world asked to see Porter Pig, hoping that they would be able to use his strength and snout to make their farm peaceful. One day, on a farm in the south, Porter Pig was sniffing for trouble when he smelled the worst smell he could ever imagine. Porter Pig rushed over to the barn where the smell was very strong. He lifted up the huge barn above his head, and there it was staring right into his eyes. Porter Pig had never seen anything like this before.
The story continued…
Its eyes were green with black inked in the centre. It tilted its head. It had challenged Porter Pig and Porter Pig never turned down a challenge.
This was no ordinary animal. It was the white streaked skunk. If Porter Pig could lift a barn, the skunk could melt it with its smell. As far as Porter Pig knew (though he wasn’t very smart) the only way to get rid of skunks is tomatoes or tomato soup. Or honeybadgers. Then again, it’s hard to find a honeybadger in Thailand.
Porter Pig had to get rid of the skunk. But how? He tried to think. “Hmm… His horrid stench has scared away most of the animals. How about we scare him back?”
At this, his piggy little brain got a big idea. Porter Pig’s big idea needed other farm animals.
Porter Pig was strong, the chicken were loud, the horses were fast and the sheep were well… uh….. sheep.
So, he gathered them around and told them his plan of surfboards, shadows and sheep. The next day, they got ready for the big plan (except for the sheep).
The chicken made a wall against the barn and started screaming. From inside, the shadow of a howling wolf scared the skunk. Then behind him came a group of horses riding on surfboards which were floating on tomatoes (which were conveniently available) and it completely scared the skunk and it ran away.
All the farmers cheered. It cost them a lot of money but it worked. The sheep did not care. After a washing, the barn would be clean. But I still feel they could have called a honeybadger and got their work done for free. But some people just don’t like honeybadgers (like sheep) Baah!

Moral of the story: Skunks are bad and smelly and hate tomatoes. And, teamwork is always good!

Are you ready to be the change?

Anushka Mimani, Class X B

The current Indore has a variety of problems ranging from power shortage to overcrowding. The crime-rate and accidents have shot up immensely. Rapes and female infanticides cover the headlines of newspapers frequently. Diseases are spreading because of unhealthy living conditions.
The root cause of most of these issues is the citizens of Indore and their unhealthy mindset.  Every street in Indore is littered with garbage. The harmful fumes coming out from industries and vehicles pollute the environment and breaking the traffic rules has led to accidents.

It is said, “Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change with it.” Blaming the government won’t solve anything.  People need to stop worrying about just themselves and start looking at the bigger picture.
Small things like cycling to school and preventing wastage of electricity can make a huge difference. Strict enforcement of laws is important to reduce crimes and accidents. The citizens of this city need to understand the value of each person regardless of whether he is a sweeper or a CEO. Students should be taught the importance of developing an eco-friendly attitude because they are the future of this city and a few years from now, they will decide what becomes of it.

The city is already in an alarming state and it is high time the citizens stop hitting the snooze button for every problem.

I Wish!

Mishi Jain, Class VII F

I wish! I wish!
To have a switch
Which would land me in a world
Where everything is as shiny as a piece of gold.
I wish! I wish!
To become very rich,
To help my poor friends
And set in the world  new trends.
I wish! I wish!
To have a high pitch
Then invite my sporty pals here
And run with them everywhere.
I wish! I wish!
To have an electronic dish.
Order the food I want to eat,
And give my family and friends a delightful treat.
I wish! I wish!
To swim in sea
Like a fish
And fly in the air like a honey bee.
I wish! I wish!
To never meet people who are harsh
And if I do
Them make me forget them soon.
Oh god! Please accomplish
At least one wish!

The Purest Joy is Often Unconditional

Prateeksha Jana, Class X D

Letitia Jones was home after a hard day of work, wanting nothing more than to unwind with a steaming cup of coffee and a classic novel. But that wasn’t destined to be. The minute she stepped into her dwelling, her young children, Martha and Leo, swarmed around her.
Letitia worked with the NYPD, at the sixth precinct. Putting criminals behind bars was her number one priority.  Usually, she’d come home, exhausted, and her children would thankfully let her be, comprehending without words that a little peace was all she needed.
Today, it seemed there was no end to their problems.
“Mom, I scraped my knee today” or “Mom! Could you mend this for me, please?”
Letitia’s husband was still at work. He taught Psychology at the NYU. The cop and the psychologist, what an odd couple they made! But Letitia wished nothing more than her husband to be there right now, as he could handle the kids better than her.
But they were her kids, and she loved them, so she reluctantly agreed to hear them out.
* * *
Letitia often wondered what unconditional love actually meant. Now she’d finally understood.
Unconditional love was putting your requirements on standby and concentrating on the needs of the loved ones first. She loved her children unconditionally, more than they could ever measure the extent of.
Boy, was she wrong!
There was an excited call form the kitchen, “Mummy!” She ran to the kitchen fearing the worst. She was greeted with the sight of Martha and Leo, grinning like maniacs, holding out gifts to her.
And that’s when Letitia understood. She understood why she was crying. She understood why she was shaking. It’s as if the universe had righted itself suddenly – everything aligned in order. She took her gifts with trembling hands, but what was infinitely more precious to her the smile of her children.

And she knew in that moment that she wouldn’t be able to survive without this all-consuming joy, and she sealed it with the words “I love you!”

Lack of Humanity

Swasti Solanki, Class IX D

I wasn’t allowed to play in the dark
When someone came with a chocolate bar.
‘Come here child’, he said
I walked behind, and he led.
I had to do as he said
If not, I was told ‘I’d be dead’.
Working in the factory, all day and night
Making all those crackers was not my choice.
Tired and exhausted, no time to rest
But my owner said, the crackers have to be the best.
More cruel he said he could be
All I said was ‘Please forgive me’.
I lost my home, my childhood was lost
I wanted to be free at any cost.
All I need is an answer for
‘Where has all the humanity gone?’

Superiority

Nikunj Gupta, Class VIII C

Once upon a time, in the city of Las Vegas, lived a boy named Jimmy Henderson who loved to trouble insects and created chaos wherever he went. He thought that insects are tiny organisms who can be hit or killed and nothing would happen as humans are the most superior beings.
He just never dealt with one insect – the cockroaches. He was so afraid of them that even if he saw a very small one, he would start crying. His family and especially his mother Christina always stopped him from hurting those small creatures but would he listen? He experienced a rapture in hurting those insects.
One day, his family made a plan. The main purpose of this plan was to make Jimmy aware that if humans hurt insects, then even the insects can hurt humans.
At night, after Jimmy had gone to sleep, Jimmy’s family left lots of toy cockroaches on his bed. When he woke up next morning, he was horrified at the sight of cockroaches all over him.
His family members kept chuckling outside the room as Jimmy kept shouting, “Mom, save me! The cockroaches are attacking me.” He kept on crying until he was finally exhausted.

His family entered and Jimmy was happy to see them. They told him that they had set this plan so that he could understand that if we hurt insects, they could also hurt us.
