We Will One Day Touch The Sky

Amaysikirti Khurasia, Class IX F

We will one day touch the sky
We’ll let the bird inside us fly
We will work hard and never cry
Coz we will one day touch the sky.
Through the darkness and closed doors
We are going to go a million times high
Accomplishing our dreams without a sigh
Coz we will one day touch the sky.
Listen,
There is always hope left inside
Sit down and first decide
Leave your stresses and disasters aside

Coz we will one day touch the sky.

Teeth

Vasudha Gupta, Class IX D

The tooth went wiggle wiggle
And we did giggle
For we were young
And wanted fun
It was a milk tooth
It had to lose its booth
We would keep it under a pillow
And laugh through the window
We would clench our teeth
And make water pass through the chreek
And do all those things
That we now think sting
But now with permanent teeth
We can’t afford sweets
Or go to bed without brushing

Unless we want the germs bashing

Maths and Sports: A Unique Blend

British Council Project

The British Council Project of Maths – The Incredible Ball: The Pivot of the Game weaved a lot of fun along with learning.

The aim of the project was to give an insight into the various scientific and mathematical concepts used while designing a ball for a particular game.

Students learnt the special features and characteristics of the balls used in different games and understood why the balls cannot be interchanged between the various games.

The project involved playing a number of matches, as well as research, quizzes, lectures, poster making, etc.

Shishyans enjoyed working on this project immensely …. and of course, they learnt a lot as they played along!

Regarding need for Counselling in Schools

Sir/Madam
Subject: Regarding the need for Counselling in Schools
I, Abhimanyu Sethia, a student of People’s School would like to gain the attention of parents and concerned authorities, through the columns of your esteemed daily on the alarming problem related to stream selection at high school level.
I am a Class X student who is in the process of choosing a career stream and I feel that I am in a state of utter confusion. I am sure that there are many other students who are going through the same problems as I am.
Misleading advertisements and misinformation have made it difficult for students to take a decision. We, the students, require a source of genuine information and advice for a successful career decision.
Moreover, we can also see many students who lack the temperament and capability to excel in a particular stream, yet are bound to take it. Therefore, objective psychometric tests making students aware of their strengths and weaknesses is essential.
In order to mobilize such career counseling, the government, NGOs and school administration must set up counseling camps in schools and other places. Moreover, the expensive psychometric tests must be subsidized by the government.
I hope my letter would turn to be an eye-opener with regard to the dilemma that nearly every student faces in this crucial phase of his / her life and suitable measure would be taken to ease the confusion so that the future of our nation can work upon its strengths.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Abhimanyu Sethia

Humans, The Cause of Damage

Pearl Pahuja, Class VIII B

The relation between the rapid destruction and change in the environment and the lifestyle of people is quite overt. The damage caused by humans has left no one. The plethora of ill effects caused by this damage is not known to humans.
Hence, this makes it a burning topic to be focused on. Global Warming has rapidly increased as a result of weakening of the ozone layer. This, inturn has resulted in increasing greenhouse effect and desertification. The temperature of earth is rising, causing forest fires and droughts. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane too contribute in the rising temperature.
Not only these but other issues such as melting of glaciers, rising sea level are at the verge of occurrence, which can lead to submerging of huge coastal regions. The greed of humans has resulted in poaching or illegal hunting of innocent animals for their body parts and products such as ivory, honey, skin, etc. This is causing damage to the biodiversity and the extinction of various plant and animal species.
Humans have not only damaged land but have also polluted water. Sacred rivers such as the Ganga can be compared to a dirty stinking drain. Droughts, water-borne diseases, shortage of water are all caused because of water pollution.
Cutting trees is the biggest offence or crime one can do. Trees are the guardians of humans who provide them with food and shelter and also cure to most of our diseases. They are the oxygen banks without which we cannot survive.
Knowing all this, we humans are destroying everything around. This cruelty shown by humans towards nature has bewildered and angered me. In true sense they are not destroying the nature but are destroying themselves. The environment and nature is the biggest treasure of Earth and it is the duty of humans to protect and conserve it.
God has given us brain for the betterment of mankind. We should work for the betterment of our planet to reduce its burden rather than increasing its pressure and creating further difficulties. So, it is a matter to be given thought upon for how long we can survive in these conditions and when will humans understand that if she lives only then we live…?

Dream of the Soul

Iti Kathed, Class XI B

Full of uncertainty,
Nobody knows what lay before it or what would succeed.
Divided into different phases,
It surely, has a purpose.
Superficially, it pretends to be
shallow and easy.
Deep down, in reality,
it’s an abyss of knowledge.
Of which you are just an ephemeral part.
Though for you it is indelible.
Decorated with pleasure and inventions,
Always uncensored,
Has the toughest things you have to deal with.
A race it is where no one wins or loses.
Where you should give your fullest.
People are made to fear, about the future.
But believe me, it is just another dream of your soul.
It is life my dear!

The Note

Nandini Bohra, Class VIII A

It was a rainy day. I was in my room, relaxing on my bed, thinking of how much I loved the monsoon season. The simple reason was that I could stay home, miss my tuitions and have fun with friends.
But this time all my preparations and calculations went wrong when mom told me that we had new neighbours who had a child, about my age. She was going to come home any moment. I was not so excited because last time a mom’s friend dropped in; I was super bored.
The doorbell rang and a girl came in. She was soberly dressed and carried a mysterious look on her face. I was ready with my fake smile. She told us her name was Insha. I took her to my room and we started to talk about our likes and dislikes, hobbies and favourite pass-times. Just then she showed me a book she was carrying.
Worn out, dusty, black, like any typical boring book. She was just passing it to me when a note fell off from within the book. I was busy picking it up when I saw her getting up and peeking into my drawers. I didn’t bother much about it.
That note, it shook me to my depths. It read: “Hello. I am 13 years old and will always be. Let me tell you my story. I was new in the housing society. Mom told me to go to Shreya’s house, another girl in the same society. I went there with high hopes of making a friend, after all we were meeting for the first time.
She lived on the twelfth floor. I went there. After a while, we became comfortable. We started to run around her room, and just when I was near the open window I slipped and fell. My parents found my body. Oh I tell you, such a bad day it was. By the way, my name is …..Insha.”
I was terrified. I wasn’t able to move but then I heard the footsteps of someone running, just when I looked up, I saw Insha, at the window, about to slip. I shrieked.
She fell off exactly as it was written in the note. I rushed to the window to see what happened. To my surprise, there was nothing, as if she vanished in the air. I was still in a state of shock when the doorbell rang. Mom opened the door and guess what, it was Preeti; our neighbours’ ‘real’ daughter.
My parents didn’t believe me but I believe that you would believe me. I don’t like monsoon anymore, I hope you understand why.

A Poem from a Student

Rishita Neema, Class VII A

The early scent of flowers,
The truly devoted preacher,
An angel of the divine,
Is the wonderful teacher.
Teachers put in their best efforts,
To make children understand,
Their hearts pain a lot,
When they make children stand.
Whenever children lose their track,
Teachers lend a helping hand,
Their lessons are beneficial and loving for us,
Like a fairy wand.
Their attitude is effervescent,
On children’s face they bring a smile,
Every teacher has a unique,
Child-friendly style.
So, if teachers make mistakes,
Them we should never tease,
Because when we make mistakes,
She tries her best to put us at ease.
Teachers blame themselves,
If our mark is not on the dart,
Because they care for each of us,
And have a student-loving heart!

Life is a Journey

Rohan Tripathi, Class IX D

What is life? Is it just about school, college, job, etc.? No! Life is a journey and it is up to us to make it beautiful. There are ups and downs at every stage and we also come across unexpected turns.
If there are bad times, there are good times as well and this is how we live. The challenges that we face in our lives make us stronger.
Life is not a race where finishing first is important. Life is all about living it and not just finishing it like a race. Our point of view can change everything.
So, be energetic, be inspired and never give up. As they say ‘Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement’. Nothing can be done without faith and confidence.

Be confident and try to realize your dreams in this beautiful journey called life.
