The Power of Nature

Power of Nature is the mightiest power

It could break a building or even a tower.

By the nature sometimes it rains

Even the earthquake which causes heavy pains.

The nature also causes natural disasters

No one could stop them be it champions or masters.

The nature also causes heavy storms

Of course the nature becomes angry when we break its norms

At times it floods or at times it rains in showers.

Besides this the nature has unlimited powers

The nature can cause destruction to any creature.

This is a brief description of the Power of Nature.

A Promise

If you ever make a promise

Learn to keep it.

Or one day you’ll break someone’s heart

And then regret about it.

I know it feels depressing

When someone breaks your heart

‘Coz that happened to me a year or two ago

And after that I started feeling apart.

That is why it is said

To choose your friends wisely

‘Coz even if a single one breaks a promise,

You’ll feel like your each and every moment

Is being sucked by the dark sea!

Always remember –

A promise is a promise

Whether big or small

It can bring you happiness and comfort

But it can also take away

Your family, your friends,

Your trust and respect forever!

If I Were A Cloud

I wish I were a cloud

Being fat, fluffy and stout

Everyone would want to give me a cuddle

And even if I want, I can’t get my clothes in a muddle.

I would also often wonder

How I am able to make a loud noisy thunder

When I would heavily rain

Peococks will dance forgetting all their pains

At dusk I would be coloured in orange and red

But I would not be visible when you will go to bed.

I would be coloured in white

Floating in the sky that would be bright

I wish I were a cloud

Being fat, fluffy and stout.

The Great Challenge

Hello! I am James. This great challenge which I am talking about was given to me a week ago. It was a very difficult job. The great challenge was that I had to babysit my little brother as my parents were going to a wedding. They left in the evening and were going to return in the night. As soon as they left, my brother and I were the only ones at home. My brother, Andrew is very mischievous and loves pulling pranks on me.

After some time, I went back to my room where Andrew was waiting for me. As soon as I opened the door, he suddenly shooting at me with his toy gun. He did not stop till he ran out of bullets. By the time he finished, he had hit every single part of my body. At that moment, I felt like I would just go and punch him in the face but then I thought that after all he is my little brother so I calmed down and started thinking of ways to keep him occupied till he became sleepy and went to bed. At first I felt clueless but then certain ideas popped into my head.

I knew Andrew loved to play with guns, so I decided to have a gun fight with him. At the start of the fight both of us kept hiding but then eventually we found each other and started shooting at each other. My shots were much more accurate than Andrew’s but he was playing much more strategically. I won that fight. Then we decided to fight a few more rounds. I let him win some of the fights to keep him interested. After the fights we got tired, so I thought that we could watch television but then Andrew came and told me that he wanted to play the new board game that I had bought the day before. I was quite surprised to see that Andrew was interested in board games. So, we started playing the board game and enjoyed it a lot.

When we finished the board game, it was nine in the night, which was only half an hour before Andrew’s bed time. Therefore, I went to him and asked him what he wanted to do for the next half hour. He said that he just wanted to go to bed. So both of us went to bed. The next day our parents asked us what we had done that night. We told them the whole story. After hearing the story, they told us that they were proud of us and thus they were going to leave us with our grandma for two days as they had to go to attend a conference. I was shocked and started thinking what I would do to keep Andrew occupied for such a long time. Just then I saw him grinning at me and so I understood those two days were going to be the most horrifying days of my life!

What If?

What if I keep on digging the earth without finding any gold

What if I only follow what I am told

What if I don’t become bold

What if I am engulfed by the dark

What if I don’t have any identification mark

What if I stand all alone

What if I forget to rock and roll

What if I am all cold

What if I can’t mould

What if I go on a hunt for true friends

What if they are the ones I forget to attend

What if I am walking towards the cliff

What if danger is on its way which I can’t sniff

What if………….

The Chocolate Palace

Once, in a kingdom far, far away, ruled this king named Arthur who had many talented people in his kingdom. Among one of these talented people there was an architect named Sid who could make almost anything from any material.

The king was a bit greedy and also loved eating chocolates. So, he asked Sid, the architect, and Ben, the chocolate maker to build a chocolate palace. Both of them disagreed to do this because the palace would melt and eventually lead to a chocolate flood. The king didn’t think about what Sid and Ben said and got very furious with both of them. He said, “If the palace isn’t built on time, I will execute both of you.”

Sid and Ben now had to work on the palace. It took some time but was a success.

The king started to live in the palace, sometimes eating the wall or the floor. One day, while he was enjoying some chocolate, sitting on his couch, he realized that a drop of chocolate fell on his face…and happy realization! The palace had already started to melt and as Sid and Ben had said, there did actually occur a chocolate flood.

The kingdom was now full of chocolate. There were people eating and drinking chocolate all over the kingdom.

Once the chocolate was cleared, Arthur was put in jail by his own people and there was peace once again. But now, Sid and Ben were the main highlights. Some people blamed them, some were impressed. Both of them said, “The king wanted a palace, we gave him one, but now if he wants a chocolate jail, then he is done.” The two were never seen again.

My Sacrifice

He wears the flight suit

Puts on his cap and combat boots

Oh! Can’t tell you how much I miss daddy

And his absence makes me very unhappy.

But I would never ever let the tear drops fall

Coz he’s doing his duty for the nation after all.

Yes, I’m a proud daughter

Of my patriotic father

And can’t I make a little sacrifice

When he does for the nation day and night?

But Why?

We never say it,
Of how girls cry
How they are treated,
Unequally!
But why?

We never explain it,
It’s like our tongue is tied,
How the ‘black’ were treated,
Rudely!
But why?

We talk about her,
How she made us cry,
What Nirbhaya faced,
Brutally!
But why?

All this is about the hatred,
In our mind’s eye,
So why should we even lie?

And when the hatred is caught,
And clear are our thoughts,
All of us will think,
But why not?

A Plea

So I come to you,
With a voice not so frail,
Hoping that the message comes through
Lifting up the veil,
Of myths and illusions we live in today
Because tonight and the next and the next
Night is not safe.
In and out of classes, I need to call
My mom, tell her I’m okay,
And that I am on my way.
Back home with two other friends, who call
Their parents, yes we will be fine.
There are fewer crimes, at this time of the day.
You know, the books don’t weigh
As much as the road I take back home,
Where I am the prey of their gaze, that
Scans me like an x-ray.
A lot more to say, lesser to convey,
It’s soon going to be doomsday.
So here is my foot forward, this issue is
Not of disdain, please don’t let the voices be
In vain, please do something to save this
Generation and those to come, because
Something definitely needs to be done
To save your daughter, to save your friend
Who’s got a life ahead.
Make this TEENAGE, a better stage, not a CAGE.

Arete: The Meaning of Life

You must be cogitating what I mean by the word ‘arete’ when you read the title. How can you relate it with life? The answers to this question do not converge on a single point. Quite literally, it means a sharp mountain ridge. Well, taking it the other way, it means excellence or moral virtue. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not a mere act, but a habit. Let’s make it easy, pick a side – happiness or service?

‘At first, I thought that life was joy. Then I learned that life was duty. Finally, I acted and behold, duty was joy!’ says the bard of Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore. Arete covers an idea that there is excellence in every step. Pursuing that transcendence, whether it creates ecstasy for yourself or service for others, should be your ultimate goal. I see both as being subsets of the larger domain of arete. The viewpoint here is that the ultimate meaning of life is the long-term pursuit of your dreams – bliss.

How can you coalesce the philosophy of arete with your daily life? Deep conversations, loyalty to friends, leaping forward in human thought, constituting hard-core relationships! Arete is a paradisaical algorithm for life and yet not perfect. After all, who would want a life where you are handed all the correct answers in advance? Wherevore, relish challenges!
