Yoga – A Way of Life

Ishika Mundhra, Class IX A

Yoga, an ancient but perfect science deals with the evolution of humanity. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skills in the performance of one’s actions. It is more than a simple workout session.
Yoga has innumerable benefits as the mind, body and soul get relaxed. Even starting with twenty minutes a day will let you reap many benefits of yoga. Yoga helps you get a better posture, strength, balance, endurance and flexibility.

It is a well-known fact that people who regularly do yoga are more likely to maintain their weight than those who don’t. Doing yoga regularly lowers levels of adrenalin, blood pressure, pulse rate and cholesterol. The list of benefits of yoga is endless. As the holy Bhagwat Gita says, ‘Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self and to the self’. Everybody should devote at least twenty minutes to yoga and they will certainly notice a positive difference in themselves.

Project on Indian Architecture

British Council Project

The British Council Social Science Project was titled Indian Architecture – An Amalgamation of Various Styles.
It was a very interesting study which opened the eyes of the students to the architectural marvels not only of India but of other countries as well.
Extensive research, making of calendars, quizzes, site visit, community service, guest lecture ………it had it all!
“Jharokha”, the exhibition was a showcase of the creativity of the Shishyans.

A fascinating project which involved learning at every step!

Shishyans Go Organic

A British Council Project

Shishyans have plunged headlong into the Science British Council Project titled ‘Go Organic – It’s the New Way to Go!’
This project involves a plethora of activities: research on organic farming in several countries, visit to Jaivik Setu – the one stop organic destination in Indore, making posters and charts, guest lectures, street plays, etc. The most fun filled activity has been the creation of a small organic garden in Shishukunj. Shishyans are nurturing it with great care and can often be found taking a peek into the area just to check ‘if the plants have grown a lil’ bit more!
Through these multiple activities, the seeds of ‘going organic’ have been sown in Shishukunj, it will be in no time that these seeds will grow into big trees…….. meaning a big movement!
This project is surely the start of a big Organic movement in Shishukunj. Go Shishyans Go !

Dear Mother

Nandini Shroff, Class IX F

Oh my mother,
My loving mother,
You are the one who’s always by my side,
You know everything about me,
Even the things I try to hide.
You were there when I cried,
And even when I laughed with delight,
You seem to have the most loving sight
Your love, by all means, is my right.
Oh my mother,
My lovely mother,
I’ll make you proud,
and try with all my might!

That is Nature

Mihir Bagadia, Class IX F

The clouds in the sky,
And grass heaven on land,
The water of gold,
The life of the earth,
That is our beautiful Nature.

The beauty of Pegasus,
The size of Megalodon,
The power of the mammoth,
And the light of the sun,
Can’t be challenged by anyone,
That is our Nature’s law.
The growth of life,
To the end of life,
Nature is on your side,
These are our Nature’s gifts.
Since the start of the world,
To the end of the world,
Take care of the Nature,
That is what the Nature wants.

We Will One Day Touch The Sky

Amaysikirti Khurasia, Class IX F

We will one day touch the sky
We’ll let the bird inside us fly
We will work hard and never cry
Coz we will one day touch the sky.
Through the darkness and closed doors
We are going to go a million times high
Accomplishing our dreams without a sigh
Coz we will one day touch the sky.
Listen,
There is always hope left inside
Sit down and first decide
Leave your stresses and disasters aside

Coz we will one day touch the sky.

Teeth

Vasudha Gupta, Class IX D

The tooth went wiggle wiggle
And we did giggle
For we were young
And wanted fun
It was a milk tooth
It had to lose its booth
We would keep it under a pillow
And laugh through the window
We would clench our teeth
And make water pass through the chreek
And do all those things
That we now think sting
But now with permanent teeth
We can’t afford sweets
Or go to bed without brushing

Unless we want the germs bashing

Maths and Sports: A Unique Blend

British Council Project

The British Council Project of Maths – The Incredible Ball: The Pivot of the Game weaved a lot of fun along with learning.

The aim of the project was to give an insight into the various scientific and mathematical concepts used while designing a ball for a particular game.

Students learnt the special features and characteristics of the balls used in different games and understood why the balls cannot be interchanged between the various games.

The project involved playing a number of matches, as well as research, quizzes, lectures, poster making, etc.

Shishyans enjoyed working on this project immensely …. and of course, they learnt a lot as they played along!

Sir/Madam
Subject: Regarding the need for Counselling in Schools
I, Abhimanyu Sethia, a student of People’s School would like to gain the attention of parents and concerned authorities, through the columns of your esteemed daily on the alarming problem related to stream selection at high school level.
I am a Class X student who is in the process of choosing a career stream and I feel that I am in a state of utter confusion. I am sure that there are many other students who are going through the same problems as I am.
Misleading advertisements and misinformation have made it difficult for students to take a decision. We, the students, require a source of genuine information and advice for a successful career decision.
Moreover, we can also see many students who lack the temperament and capability to excel in a particular stream, yet are bound to take it. Therefore, objective psychometric tests making students aware of their strengths and weaknesses is essential.
In order to mobilize such career counseling, the government, NGOs and school administration must set up counseling camps in schools and other places. Moreover, the expensive psychometric tests must be subsidized by the government.
I hope my letter would turn to be an eye-opener with regard to the dilemma that nearly every student faces in this crucial phase of his / her life and suitable measure would be taken to ease the confusion so that the future of our nation can work upon its strengths.
Thanking you
Yours sincerely

Abhimanyu Sethia
